Description

Mamaki is a small understory tree that grows in the wet forest.  It likes filtered light and often grows in openings where there is more light.  It has a short life span.  It usually lives from 5-10 years maximum.  It is the food plant for the native butterfly, Kamehameha.  The fresh (and dried) leaves are used for making herbal tea. Mesic forest, Wet forest, Montane forest.

How to grow

  1. Plant in well drained soil. 
  2. Keep soil moist but not soaking. 
  3. Keep in filtered light at 60-90 degrees fahrenheit.
