Description

ʻIlima is an herbaceous shrub that grows in the Hawaiian dry forest. It is a wonderful little plant that flowers all year, seeds and naturally regenerates once established. The flowers are used to create the most precious lei, and in old Hawaiian culture the flowers were squeezed and juice expressed was used as a gentle medicine for colicky babies. Coastal, Dry forest, Mesic forest.

How to grow

  1. Plant in well drained soil
  2. Keep soil moist but not soaking
  3. Keep in filtered light, 60-90 degrees f
